The amount of computer power that you can get for under a thousand bucks is truly amazing. For around $1,000, you can build a one-gigahertz (1GHz) Pentium III computer with one gigabyte (1GB) of RAM.

I thought that my poor old 450MHz computer was a real screamer when I got it. Its 256MB of RAM even helped Adobe's Photoshop seem perky.
