Standard Microsystems makes announcement.

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 1996--Standard Microsystems Corp. (SMC(R))(NASDAQ: SMSC) announced today the following executive promotions in its System Products Division, effective immediately.

Kenneth Brinkerhoff is promoted to divisional vice president of engineering. He will

report to Lance Murrah, senior vice president and general manager of the System Products Division and will be responsible for all the division's engineering operations in Irvine, Calif. Brinkerhoff, who joined SMC in 1987 as director of Communications Software Development, was previously a founder of Kantek Inc., a Local Area Network engineering and manufacturing firm. Brinkerhoff holds a BS in Physics from the University of Washington.

Eileen Conlon is promoted to divisional vice president of manufacturing. She will also report to Murrah. Conlon joined SMC in 1980 as a quality control inspector and was promoted to her most recent position as director of production control. She has spent the past year designing improved manufacturing and distribution practices as part of a special project. Conlon now has assumed the manufacturing responsibility for the division and, thus, the responsibility for implementing these new practices. She holds a BS in Business Management from Long Island University.

Steven Schmid is promoted to divisional vice president of new product development. He will also report to Murrah. In this position, Schmid will focus on new product development and full life-cycle product management. He joined SMC in 1989 as a product marketing manager. Prior to SMC, Schmid held various marketing and engineering positions with IDR Inc., Esprit Systems and Hazeltine Corp. He holds a BS in Applied Mathematics/Computer Science from the State University of New York and an MS in Computer Science from Polytechnic University.

In addition to these promotions, Clem Russo, a divisional vice president, has been placed in charge of customer management and becomes the focal point for executing the customer management aspects of the division's strategy. Russo, who joined SMC in 1995 as division vice president of manufacturing, also reports to Murrah. Prior to SMC, he was the chief operations officer and vice president of marketing at Computer Products in Florida. He holds a BSEE from Manhattan College.
