The Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series(R) returns this year to Pittsburgh for the Steel Town Struggle!

The Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series(R) returns to Moraine State Park, Sunday, Oct. 7,

2001, with race start slated for 8:00 a.m. Participants can look forward to an amazing race site with Lake Arthur occupying approximately 3,225 acres of warm water. Moraine State Park is a perfect site for an adventure race with its gently rolling hills, lush forests and sparkling waters.

The Hi-Tec Adventure Race(R) in Pittsburgh is almost sold out with approximately 300 teams or more than 1,000 participants, making it one of the largest adventure races in the world!

Please join us on Saturday, Oct. 6, the day prior to the race, at the Giant Eagle Store for in-store demonstrations with Team Balance Bar. The team will be on hand for three hours demonstrating adventure racing skills and conducting in-store racing clinics each hour. Balance Bar will be on-hand to supplement your energy with sample size Balance Bars and coupons.

The popularity of adventure racing is exploding and captivating many with its unique and original style of racing! Whether a first time participant or a seasoned adventure racer, the Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series(R) (National Championship Series for Adventure Racing) provides true competition for everyone.

All levels of racers are encouraged to participate. Weekend warriors from all parts of Pittsburgh, as well as across the country, will travel to Moraine State Park to compete.

Teams of three compete in trail running (five-eight miles), Kayaking (one-two miles), and mountain biking (10-15 miles) in a measure of endurance and teamwork. In addition, eight-ten "special tests" are added to further challenge the competitors. The famous trademark for adventure racing is the different and creative "special tests" where prior to the race competitors have no knowledge of the course set-up, or what special tests await them.

Bring the young ones out for the kids race! The 2001 Hi-Tec Adventure for Kids provides kids 10 and under the chance to experience the same obstacles as adults do in the large-scale adventure races.

The Pittsburgh race is the seventh event in the eight-race Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series(R) tour that extends across the United States. The race will continue to Orchard Beach, N.Y. (Oct. 21). Each event is broadcast on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) and will feature the best adventure racing has to offer.
