"A number of strong key releases as well as continuing excitement over July's Knights of the Old Republic (LucasArts, for Xbox) resulted in a much stronger August than usual," said Peer Schneider, IGN's network director. "Propelled by brand recognition, positive press, and word of mouth, EA's Madden NFL 2004 released to strong sales, while Namco's Soul Calibur II showed beyond doubt that the franchise is fit for mass appeal. Finally, Nintendo's first major co-production with former rival Sega has resulted in one of the best racing titles of the year with F-Zero GX."
