Metals USA-Speciality Plates and Shapes-St. Louis has started construction on a 28,500-sq.-ft. expansion to their facility. The expansion is needed to make room for new product lines and new equipment as well as improving service and efficiency.

Starting out in 1971 as Flagg Steel Company, the company specialized in tool and die steels. Acquired by Metals USA in 1998, the company has grown to offer a diverse product line including: tool steel, brass, copper, stainless, aluminum, bearing metal, Dura-Bar@ and other speciality metals.
Processing services offered include: cut-to-length, grinding, milling, drilling, slitting, sawing, shearing and leveling.
New equipment that will be installed in the expansion includes: a precision aluminum plate and cutoff saw; a large block saw (to better serve mold and die customers) and a new cantilever racking system.
Jon Goreham, Executive Vice President of Metals USA's Specialty Plates and Shapes business unit commented, "We are enthused about the expansion of our St. Louis facility as it will allow us the opportunity to add more value to our existing customer relationships. Our enhanced product line and processing capabilities will be unique in the greater St. Louis marketplace." As the physical expansion is underway, Metals USA-St. Louis will also be converting to the Metals USA Platform computer systems. "This will allow us to more quickly tie in to the nationwide network of Metals USA for tracking inventory, shipments, deliveries and pricing," noted Pete Schiavone, tool steel product manager.
