Carmel, Ind., Company Nets Deal to License Roche Diagnostics Technology.

Oct. 30--A casual conversation in a hallway at Northeastside offices of Roche Diagnostics led to the company's first effort at licensing technology to a startup firm.

Roche announced Wednesday that it has licensed the technology that backs its flagship product, the Accu-Chek Advantage blood glucose monitors, to Theron Inc. It plans to use the ideas to make instruments that detect harmful chemicals in city water supplies and pathogens in food.
