Transportation specialist Andrew Gemperline , P.E., has joined the Dallas office of Carter & Burgess as a senior program manager with the Transportation Programs Division. Of his 16 years of experience, more than 10 were spent with the Utah Department of Transportation, where he led UDOT's efforts toward preparation of early construction and environmental project components for the $1.5-billion design-build reconstruction of Interstate 15; he led the combined efforts of UDOT, Salt Lake Organizing Committee, the Utah Transit Authority, law enforcement agencies, and venue communities in the development, implementation and operation of a transportation plan for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City; and developed and executed the $250-million funding program that financed the planning, capital improvements and operational requirements of transportation for the Olympic Games. Most recently, Gemperline managed the $450-million environmentally sensitive Legacy Parkway design-build project for UDOT, restarting the controversial project, which was previously stalled by legal challenges. Gemperline has received numerous state and national awards, including the UDOT Award of Excellence in Preconstruction, UDOT Public Involvement Award and the Golden Spike Award for Public Involvement, as well as the Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil Award for Integrated Communication.
