Gateway to Lay Off 100 Workers in Kansas City, Mo.

Sep. 10--Gateway Inc. will lay off 100 workers in Kansas City, part of a reorganization plan that includes firing at least 1,300 employees in South Dakota, Virginia and Missouri.

The layoffs at the Gateway facility in Kansas City's West Bottoms will affect only customer service employees, said Bob Sherbin, a spokesman for the company. The reduction will cut employment there to about 600. At one point, the computer manufacturer had about 1,300 employees in Kansas City.
