HERZLIYA, ISRAEL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000

eMPower(TM) offering enables the development, communication and operation of manufacturing processes across the extended enterprise

Tecnomatix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ-NM: TCNO), a world leader in e-Manufacturing software solutions, today announced the launch of eMPower, a suite of Web-enabled, B2B e-Manufacturing software solutions for developing, communicating and operating optimal manufacturing processes throughout the extended enterprise.

eMPower enables manufacturers to respond to the new challenges created by today's e-business environment. eMPower boosts enterprise competitiveness by enabling B2B collaboration across the supply chain, accelerating new product introductions and reducing time to customer.

eMPower provides a common way to define and exchange manufacturing process information. With eMPower, manufacturers are able to collaborate with their plants and suppliers over the Internet, anywhere in the world. This solution supports the entire manufacturing process life-cycle from process planning and detailed engineering to plant operations.

"The Internet has created a new paradigm for manufacturers, requiring them to perform at new levels of speed, flexibility and collaboration," said Harel Beit-On, president and CEO of Tecnomatix. "Today, the extended enterprise is challenged by a customer-driven market that dictates shorter product life-cycles and mass customization. To succeed in this new environment, manufacturers must collaborate with their global production operations and supply chains to create one virtual enterprise capable of responding at the speed of demand. eMPower provides the tools that allow manufacturers to excel in this new dynamic e-business environment."

"e-Manufacturing is indeed, an important component in manufacturers' e-business strategy" says Joachim J. Wiesmueller, Project Manager, Digital Manufacturing (DMF) at BMW AG. "Satisfying market demand with the right car at the right time in today's customer driven environment poses huge new challenges on manufacturing. BMW is already using some components of the Tecnomatix eMPower solution, with good results in time saving, quality improvement and cost reduction--results that help us maintain our competitive market position."

"We recently took a hard look at our manufacturing processes and realized that we needed to optimize our processes, expand our collaboration with the supply chain and improve reuse of processes and resources. We turned to Tecnomatix for its process planning technology," said Pierre LeCoq, Renault VI Executive Vice President of Engineering. "Since the implementation, we've seen significant improvements in all areas and, as a result, we have facilitated a Trans-Atlantic virtual manufacturing program with our U.S. branch, Mack Trucks, Inc. Now, our manufacturing departments work concurrently during the product design stage. We are collaborating with Mack to optimize planning and assembly processes, which helps us to meet our customers' needs for higher quality products while we see a decrease in costs and ramp up time."

eMPower is packaged as a suite of dedicated solutions developed for the automotive, electronics, aerospace and heavy equipment industries, and is available now.

eMPower Technology

The eMPower solutions are made up of three components:

eBOP

eBOP, an electronic Bill of Process, is an open, scalable model of the manufacturing process. An eBOP represents manufacturing processes by defining the relationship among operations, product parts and manufacturing resources. Once defined as an eBOP, a process can be exchanged throughout the extended enterprise.

eM-Server

eM-Server, or the e-Manufacturing server, is used to capture, manage and communicate eBOPS over the Internet. Once an eBOP is created, it is stored on the eM-Server where it is available for review and exchange throughout the extended enterprise. The eM- Server is accessed through the eM-Portal, an e-Manufacturing portal that is a suite of B2B, Web-based applications used for collaborating on eBOP content .

e-Manufacturing Applications

Over the last 15 years, Tecnomatix developed the Digital Factory, a comprehensive set of solutions that addresses production processes in the automotive, aerospace, electronics and heavy equipment industries. These solutions plug into the eMPower architecture to deliver process creation, analysis and optimization capabilities. In addition, eMPower introduces a new line of Web-enabled applications for modeling, process communication, documentation, change management, distribution and collaboration.

"Tecnomatix's new eMPower solutions unite its unsurpassed technologies for production engineering automation in a Web-centric framework designed to let companies leverage their manufacturing data for unprecedented connectivity, flexibility and competitiveness," said Bruce Jenkins, vice president, Daratech Inc. "eMPower should be closely investigated by any manufacturer working to enable mass customization, shorten time-to-revenue, and participate in the global manufacturing collaboration and commerce revolution."

"Our integrated architecture creates an unrivaled combination of deep manufacturing process content with Web-based collaboration capabilities, giving Tecnomatix a distinct market advantage," said Yochi Slonim, executive vice president, Products and Marketing of Tecnomatix. "As a first-mover to act on the challenges created by e-business, we are best positioned to sustain a leadership position in the emerging e-Manufacturing market."
