MOBILE WORKERS ARE TAKING WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY WHEREVER there's a job to be done. With the help of cell phones, pagers, and handheld computers, they're getting alerts about the latest tasks and a convenient way to track their projects. Service technicians, repair crews, cable installers, utility workers, and others can receive orders, log their locations, read repair instructions, record their hours, and transmit job details back to headquarters.

Field service is one of the most common wireless data applications among enterprises, according to investment bank Gerard Klau
