Hire Now For The Holidays
Most retailers think extra sales people are a drain on profits. Think again.
Often times during the holidays, consumers need extra time to rush out and grab those little gifts in between work, playing shuttle driver, cheerleader to kids soccer games and more. That means that more people are shopping in early morning, at lunch, and right after work. So how do you capitalize on it?
Staff up!
Most retailers don't realize you can hire someone to only work a few hours on a shift (check you local labor laws to be sure) and they can help not only improve customer service, but increase sales as well.
At a prior company, we used to bring on staff to work 11am-2pm and again from 5pm-7:30pm to capture the sales when the most people were shopping. And believe it or not, there are a lot of people who want to work short shifts that fit into their schedules to pick up some extra cash.
Now's the time to figure out your needs and get cracking on hiring to fill those positions. Your needs may include restocking, general customer service, straightening and organizing, etc.
Don't think you need help? Think again. Most entrepreneurial retailers want to save the payroll dollars, but you're actually limiting your success by not taking full advantage of every customer who walks in.
Still not sure? Test it for a couple weeks and see what happens. Chances are you'll see an increase in sales if the customers are walking in the door.
