VANCOUVER, Washington--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1997--GST Telecommunications (AMEX:GST), Inc. today announced the appointment of Daniel Trampush as Chief Financial Officer.

Trampush brings over 26 years of telecommunications industry experience to GST. As Chief Financial Officer

he will take charge of directing and controlling all financial activities, as well as identifying and directing the Company's long-range financial objectives and strategies. Trampush replaces Robert H. Hanson, who remains Senior Vice President - Corporate Development of GST, in which capacity he will have major responsibilities in the area of mergers and acquisitions.

During his tenure as a Partner with Ernst and Young's Telecommunications Consulting practice, Trampush provided a wide range of financial and business advisory services in the areas of business planning, corporate strategy, financial forecasting, product profitability, service costing, and acquisitions. His diverse communications clientele included major domestic and international wireline, wireless and cable television companies such as Bell Canada, Bell Atlantic and Time-Warner Communications.

Furthermore, Trampush has extensive experience working with the Federal Communications Commission and state regulatory agencies. He participated in the FCC's rewrite of the Uniform System of Accounts. He presented expert testimony before the FCC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, various state regulatory commissions, and the federal courts.

The Company also named Robert Olson President and Chief Operating Officer of GST Telecom, Inc. Olson replaces Earl Kamsky who has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer for publicly- held GST Global Telecommunications, Inc. (GGB.V)

Olson joined GST Telecom in March of 1995 as Vice President and General Manager of Exchange and Wireless services. As President, Olson will oversee all functions of GST Telecom, including management and operations for GST's CLEC networks located throughout the western United States and Hawaii. Previously Vice President and General Manager for Metroplex Communications Corp., Olson brings a strong background in operations, strategic planning and general management of local telephone companies to GST, as well as over 18 years experience in the independent telephone, CATV, and cellular industries.
