A Look at Total Lending by Originations and Dollar Volume Provides
Comprehensive Perspective
PCi Corporation, the leading provider of compliance risk management solutions, today announced its highly anticipated
Tracking lending by both originations and overall dollar volume, a more complete picture of small business lending emerges. From this perspective, it is clear that financial institutions are meeting the capital needs of small businesses in various ways.
In 2001, Citibank was the small business lending leader by number of new loans originated, while Wells Fargo & Co. captured the top spot for total dollar volume of new small loans (less than $1MM) to businesses. Regulatory agencies review both number of loans and dollar value of lending when reviewing lending institution performance under CRA. Smaller loans and extended card credit facilitate everyday growth in small businesses, while larger loans to small businesses are beneficial for larger investments and capital expenditures.
"These rankings demonstrate a strong commitment by lending institutions to support small businesses. Banks understand that small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy, and they require capital to remain competitive and grow," said Raffi Festekjian, president and CEO, PCi Corporation. "By ranking both originations and dollar volume a more comprehensive picture emerges of small business lending activity. PCi Corporation is proud to work with financial institutions supporting small business."
The following tables list the leading small business lenders in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and to businesses with $1 million or less in revenues. These rankings include institutions required to report data under the CRA. The rankings are shown for total dollar amount loaned and total number of originations and consider originated small business transactions only.
