Does My Business Need a Formal Travel Policy?

* From  Date: Friday, March 7 2008

If you're wondering if your business needs a travel policy, the answer is probably yes. In addition to helping you manage costs, a travel policy will allow you to clearly define what is and is not an acceptable travel expense. If you want to challenge an employee's expense, you'll have something in

writing to point to.

When devising a travel policy, make sure you include all typical travel-related expenses, such as food, lodging, transportation, and business entertainment, and have your legal representative carefully review it before printing and distributing it to employees. It's also a good idea to hold a meeting once or twice a year with your most frequent travelers to ensure the policy is working for them.
