The Value Of Networking

Sunday, March 9 2008

Depending on what type of business you own, networking can be a very profitable source for you.  The types of businesses I have seen great success with are service businesses.

I previously belonged to Business Network International.  In my group, there was every type of business from a chocolate restaurant to dog grooming to a steel building manufacturer.  I do not believe all networking groups work for everyone.  I think it's important to find one that fits your specialty. For instance, depending on the type of client you are looking for, let's say you're a doctor, you'd want to have a chiropractor, a massage therapist, a holistic doctor, etc.  It would not be beneficial for you to have a dog groomer and makeup artist in your group.

Throughout the years, I have belonged to many different types of groups from Women Business Owner groups to Legal Administration groups.  Each was beneficial in terms of promoting business as well as obtaining valuable knowledge from others in my field regarding HR issues, benefit administration, handling employees, etc.

I personally benefit from the knowledge that other Office Administrators have regarding what types of software they use, scanning equipment, how their benefits are structured, etc.  When working for myself, I benefit from groups of other women who can provide me with people looking for accounting help.

Go online and look up networking groups in your area.  You can attend a couple of meetings for free to see what best fits your needs.

In the Northwest Arkansas Area; Bentonville (Home of Wal-Mart), Rogers, Fayettville, Springdale...there are networking opportunities every day of the week going through the entire area...Bentonville one day, Rogers the next, etc. Every industry is covered, if you are trying to grow a business, you are welcome to come...my last meeting with them had everyone from bankers, funeral home directors, IT people, carpet cleaners, massage therapists, and so many others... Our groups may be different from yours but - all of these are free groups without attendance requirements. We also have the BNI group as well. This is a WONDERFUL way of growing your business.
