Rickel Home Centers Inc asked for a 192-day extension to develop its bankruptcy reorganization plan. The home improvement chain was negatively affected by the bad weather conditions during the spring of 1997 which kept sales down. The company is optimistic that it can develop a reorganization plan more easily when sales increase to a level that will attract adequate financing. Rickel is also planning to downsize some of its larger stores to lease the extra space to other retailers.
