Mid-America Apartment Communities, Inc. (NYSE: MAA) today announced that its board of directors had approved a quarterly dividend of $0.585 per share payable on April 30, 2001 to shareholders of record on April

23, 2001.

As established in prior quarters, the Company is declaring its quarterly dividend in advance of its earnings' announcement, which will be made on April 30, 2001.

MAA is a self-administered, self-managed apartment-only real estate investment trust which owns or has ownership interest in 33,781 apartment units throughout the southeastern and midwest U.S. and in Texas, including 149 units in the development pipeline.
