May 7--Ethyl Corp. said it swung to a profit in the first quarter as the company gained from the sale of one business and saw improved results from another.

The Richmond-based maker of fuel and lubricant additives reported a profit of $16.3 million, or 98 cents per share, compared with a loss of $1.6 million, or 10 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.
