The worsening political crisis in Peru has led to the postponement of the auction of the concession for La Granja, one of the world's largest undeveloped copper deposits. The auction was scheduled to have been completed this Monday, November 20, and as recently as last Friday a spokesman for Peru's privatisation committee had said that Billiton of the UK and Grupo Mexico had both confirmed that they were participating.
It was expected that the winner would have to bid at least US$15 million for the royalty interest held in La Granja by Peru's state-owned mining company
