Project Overview:
As a result of an explosion that occurred in mid-2000, KUWAIT NATIONAL PETROLEUM's Mina al-Ahmadi refinery is now only operating at 50% of total production capacity which is set at 440,000 barrels per day (b/d). Hence, the local KUWAIT INSURANCE CO. is now said to be in negotiation with an American/South Korean joint venture regrading a contract to refurbish the plant. The partners in the would-be assignment include U.S.-based FLUOR DANIEL and SK ENGINEERING CO. of South Korea.
