Contract Awards Summary

How To Use the Contract Awards Summary:

All numbers and charts are in real dollars. The chart immediately below tracks cumulative awards for all categories of construction in PB&E' s five-state area. The last two years are shown in their entirety for comparison. The five

year-to-date-by-state charts on the right are on different scales because each state's market is unique. The middle left table is of monthly awards. The figures are not year-to-date. The text in the middle explains the highlights and details of the monthly contract awards, with an emphasis on the projects and categories that affected the awards totals the most. The table along the bottom of the page breaks out year-to-date figures for the seven categories of construction in all five states. The percentage figures to the right of the largest categories and the totals show how the year-to-date figure has changed from the previous year. All charts and tables are based on contract-awards data that is reported publicly.

A MARKED IMPROVEMENT in the value of Transportation projects that were bid during the month helped to push March 2005's contract awards total in the Northwest well ahead of 2004, year-to-date. After ending last month 25 percent behind the 2004 pace for transportation projects, the gap closed to 9 percent in March thanks to several large projects. By far the most expensive project was in Washington , where Sound Transit opened bids for the C755 project, a largely elevated portion of the Central Link light rail line connecting downtown Seattle to SeaTac Airport. It drew a low bid of $231.7 million. The state also reported the most expensive building project, $67.7 million for the Evergreen Hospital Medical Center Emergency Department in Kirkland. Oregon and Idaho continued to run well ahead of 2004, the latter reporting a $35 million project in Kootenai County continuing the upgrade of U.S 95.
