Using Social Networks to Build a Home-Based Business

Thursday, April 17 2008

No matter what your home-based business is, you'll need something to sell. If you are considering starting a home based business, but don't know what to sell, have you tried looking at the social networks? These sites can give you all sorts of ideas to shape your business.

Take a look at social networks. Even the large social networks like MySpace or Facebook have targeted niche groups. For example, MySpace has thousands of groups you can browse or join. You can often get ideas of what niches people are looking at by spending some reading the messages. If you spend some time in the fishing groups for example, you may learn of fishing related niche products that people are seeking.

Even if you have an existing home based business, you can always use more customers or clients. If you sell baseball apparel for example, you can browse the baseball groups to see what people are talking about.

Join the conversation, but don't spam. Maybe you will pick up a few new customers.

You can begin by building a relationship with just few people. If the group is large, your message about your business can spread virally.

So spend some time in social networks relating to your area of interest. You will be surprised how micro-niches and groups of potential contacts will pop up.

I feel that the social network marketing sites are one of the reasons I have learned so much so quickly. Thank you for letting me share...

Myspace is full of amateurs. It was cool about a year ago because you could steer traffic from your myspace page onto your blog or squeeze page and make offers or collect newsletter sign ups, but now because of all the spamming that went on, I would recommend youtube or squidoo.
