GCO Inc. names new president and CEO.

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1995--Montgomery-based GCO Inc., the nation's largest carpet outlet francisher, has named Wayne Atchison as its president and CEO.

Atchison succeeds Dick McAdams, who will serve as chairman of the board of the company he founded six years ago. McAdams

continues as a board member of GCO's parent company, The Maxim Group Inc., of Kennesaw, Ga.

There are 100 GCO, Your Georgia Carpet Outlet stores operating in 42 states and the number of stores is growing rapidly. Seventeen of the stores are company-owned and operated; the balance are franchises.

McAdams developed the GCO concept of cash-and-carry sales from attractive warehouse-showrooms that stock hundreds of rolls of carpet in a wide range of prices.

"It took an innovative thinker and an industry insider to come up with the next evolutionary phase of carpet sales," said Atchison. He stressed that the company will continue to draw on McAdam's expertise.

McAdams is highly regarded in the floor-covering industry, having been named Retailer of the Year by Flooring Magazine and also by the National Congress of Floor Covering Associations.

Praising Atchison for the leadership he has shown in the company's rapid rise as a franchiser, McAdams said, "He is the ideal choice to lead our company into its next stage of growth."

Atchison, formerly vice president of marketing, has been involved in franchise development, franchise support, training, human resources, advertising and operations since joining GCO Inc. in 1993. Prior to his association with the company, he was an independent business development consultant in Birmingham, where he resides.

During his 25-year business career, Atchison has concentrated on national and international franchising. He was previously vice president of franchise development for ColorTyme Inc. of Athens, Texas.
