AMERICAN RE NAMES JAMES R. KRONER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND TREASURER.

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 27, 1995--American Re Corporation (NYSE-ARN) announced that it has named James R. Kroner as Senior Vice President and Treasurer of both American Re Corporation and its principal operating subsidiary, American Re-Insurance Company (American Re-Insurance).

Paul Inderbitzin, Chairman, CEO and President of American Re-Insurance, said, Jim Kroner's background and reputation as a leader in the corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions of insurance and reinsurance companies is well known. Jim is also very familiar with American Re, having worked on our buy-out in 1992 and our initial public offering in 1993. Having someone of his talents at American Re will enable us to broaden the services we offer our clients and strengthen our already excellent financial services team.

Mr. Kroner, 34, joined Merrill Lynch in 1989 as corporate finance associate specializing in the insurance industry. His transaction experience includes mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, restructurings, divestitures, recapitalizations, and initial public offerings. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Kroner was an Assistant Vice President in the Insurance Ratings Group at Standard & Poor's, where he was responsible for ratings of U.S. and European property/casualty, multi-line, and reinsurance companies.

Mr. Kroner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and economics from Northwestern University and a Master of Management degree from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
