Are All Parts of your Website Working?

If you have a website for your home based business, make sure it is thoroughly working before you use it in your business materials. I got a business card from someone the other day who I have been buying from via eBay. I noticed he had a website on his card so I thought: "Cool, I can bypass eBay and buy directly from his site."

But alas, that was not to be. His website looked nice and showcased all his products, but when it came time to add something to my cart, I got one of those unfriendly looking database errors. In other words, his shopping cart was not working. When I asked him about it, he said something like "oh I haven't gotten around to getting that working yet".

I wanted so bad to say: If it's not working why is it on your business card? However, I kept my mouth shut and decided I would blog about it instead! If you have business materials with your website URL on it, make sure the website is presentable and usable. These materials might include not only printed materials, but online materials such as your default URL in PayPal or URLs in email signatures.

Having a half working website says that you're only half interested in your home based business. It's better to wait until your website is fully working (or remove the parts that aren't working until you can get them working) than to let your customers stumble across an embarrassingly broken piece of your business.
