3 Home Business Ideas for Seniors

If you are searching for a way to supplement your retirement income, have you considered a home based business?

In yesterday's post, I talked about why seniors might consider a home based business. But not just any home based business will do. When you reach the age of 'senior', you probably don't want to start from scratch, learning a new trade in order to start a business. With that in mind, here are 3 ideas that let you start building with what you may already have.

Consultant - Have you had enough experience with something that you can turn that knowledge into a consulting business? By the age of sixty, most people have a lifetime of experience to draw on. Even if you aren't up to the consultant level, is there something that you can build on without too much effort?

Service - Similarly, can you provide a service? If you were good at something in your past, is it a service you can provide for others? It could be something simple like car repair. A friend of mine is 68 and he spends his days doing car repairs and maintenance for other people. It's something he loves doing and of course he was a mechanic most of his life. Last time I talked with him he was doing quite well and doesn't even advertise anymore; he just gets 'word of mouth'.

Network Marketing - Another area that might suitable for seniors is network marketing. In these businesses, it does not take much to start up and they are relatively easy to learn. You need to be a "people person" and you need to be careful with these businesses; many of them are shaky. Do your homework before joining one, but they can be a good fit for a senior.

If you are searching for a way to supplement your retirement income or if you're an over 50 job seeker not having much luck, have you considered a home based business?
