False Expectations and Home Based Business Opportunities

Monday, June 29 2009

When you plan for a home based business, what kind of expectations do you have? All too often, people have false or unreasonable expectations about starting a home based business.

Quite often, home based business opportunities are presented as a "get rich quick" arrangement. Although they seldom use that term, they often leave exactly that impression with their marketing presentations. And therefore, people join with the false expectation that they can somehow just join the business and start raking in huge amounts of cash without doing any significant work.

There is nothing wrong with having the expectation of making large amounts of money from your home based business. But that goal should be coupled with the amount of work you are willing to put into it. If you want to make a lot of money from your home business, be willing to put in a lot of hours each week - especially during the first five years.

Maybe you only have the expectation of making a part time income. In that case, a part time effort may be sufficient. Or have great expectations but be prepared to put in the effort to satisfy them. In any case, make sure the level of your commitment will support your expectations.
