Are Goatees Really Worth Saving?

Friends don’t let friends grow goatees.

As a fashion statement, they’re right up there with the mullet.

But for those who insist on sporting unseemly facial hair, there’s the GoateeSaver, an adjustable shaving system that helps create the perfectly sculpted goatee.

Scott Bonge, an inventor from Little Rock, Arkansas, created the GoateeSaver because he could never quite get his own chin fungus to come out right. “If it ended up crooked, I would just shave it off,” he said. “One day I thought, if I’ve got this issue, other guys have to have the same problem.”

The GoateeSaver is pretty gnarly. It looks like an athletic supporter that you strap across your face. The idea is to shave around the device. Sure, you look like a complete maniac in the process, but you’re the one who wanted a goatee in the first place.

A former pharmaceutical salesman, Bonge spent the last two years perfecting the device. He’s now selling it online for $19.99. He’s also talking to Wal-Mart and other retailers about putting it on store shelves.

His efforts recently landed him a spot on The Tonight Show, which is appropriate because Bonge insists he designed the GoateeSaver with Jay Leno’s oversized chin in mind.

We grudgingly admit that the GoateeSaver is huge leap forward in men’s grooming. It’s perhaps the greatest invention since the Miami Vice razor, which allowed Don Johnson wannabes across the nation to preserve their three-day stubble.

If only those pastel suits were back in style.
