Privately Held Online Rec Sports Sites Merge

Active.com, a La Jolla-based firm that operates online registration for recreational sporting events and sports leagues, said it is merging with Sierra Digital Inc.

Digital, based in Sacramento, is a developer of a management software product used by more than 1,000 parks and recreation agencies, college departments and military installations. It has about 30 employees.

Sierra Digital's product allows users to register for sports lessons or facility rentals at parks and recreation departments.

Two-year-old Active.com, with 150 employees, said it is the leading online registration company providing the service for more than 15,000 sporting events, including the Suzuki Rock and Roll Marathon held in San Diego.

The latest merger follows on the earlier acquisitions by Active in the online event registration space. Last November, La Jollabased RaceGate.com merged with Miamibased ActiveUSA.com. In January, the new company acquired LeagueLink, a Web-based recreational league management firm based in Westminster, Colo.
