A management group with more than 50 years experience at Knowlton Specialty Papers Inc., a pioneer in the paper industry purchased the firm's assets. The new company will be Knowlton Technologies LLC.

The company is a wet laid composites

media manufacturer. Its products include converting media for structural composites, absorbent media, air and fluid filter media, high-energy friction materials, moldable pre-pregs, and ballistics control media.

The management buyout is led by Frederick G. "Rick" Rudmann, president and CEO, who joined the company in 2004.

"This is an exciting time for Knowlton/' Rudmann remarked. "We are focused on high technology niche markets offering experienced and innovative proto-typing and production scale-up in newly emerging technologies."

The "new" Knowlton is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2008, making it one of the oldest companies in New York State, and the oldest continuously operated paper mill in the United States.
