Kyodo News International, Tokyo Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Feb. 16--TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) President Rolf Eckrodt may step down to take the blame for poor results at the firm, which is trying to revive itself with help from its biggest shareholder, DaimlerChrysler AG, sources close to the company said Monday.

Eckrodt, a former senior official at DaimlerChrysler, assumed the presidency in June 2002 after being sent to the MMC board in 2001 from the German-American automaker to turn around the Japanese company.
