Web Hosting and Customer Service

Thursday, May 15 2008

When you are in the planning stages for home business website, you'll need to evaluate web hosts. Or maybe you're just looking to make a change in hosting companies. There are many factors involved in selecting the right web host because different home based businesses will have different requirements. But across the board, I think the most important criteria for a web host is their customer service.

It's tempting to look at heavily at pricing when you make your decision. Pricing is important, but the web host company's customer service will trump pricing. If the host's pricing is too low, there's probably a reason for it. Once you sign up with a hosting company, you'll find you will have a "host" of issues that will require help from the web host's customer service people. How quickly they are able to respond and how well they resolve your issues will be key to your continuing business on the web. If they can't provide dedicated, quality customer care, you may lose business as a result.

Browse web forums and see what existing customers are saying about the host before you sign on. Are the customers generally happy with the customer service they're getting or is there a lot of grumbling? In any case, don't over look Customer Service when choosing a web host.
