Retail giant Wal-Mart has started its German operations with the acquisition of two hypermart chains with 70 retail outlets. Early indications reveal that German retailers expect stiff competition from the Wertkauf/Wal-Mart store in the city of Dortmund. Wal-Mart has another Wertkauf store as well as five Interspar stores in the city. The first Wertkauf store is easily accessible from the autobahn and is in the middle of a huge retail park. Sales have improved by 20% under Wal-Mart's ownership even if expenditures are being in made in remodeling the store and in changing inventory.
