SAN FRANCISCO - Charles R. Schwab probably won't step down as chief executive of his eponymous corporation for another two years. In the meantime, he'll groom a successor and see through the remarkable turnaround he ignited at the discount broker.

The founder, chairman and chief executive of The Charles Schwab Corp. retook the company reins in July 2004 after David S. Pottruck - who had become sole chief executive 14 months earlier - was pushed out by the board of directors. Mr. Schwab had never relinquished his role as chairman.
