The Russian government is reportedly close to a decision about privatizing the country's diamond sector, said an official close to Gokhran head, Valery Rudakov, quoted by the South African newspaper, Business Day. One of the beneficiaries from the process could be Israel's Lev Leviev.

The privatization plan will not affect the mining sector, because of Russian law, which prevents foreign-owned or controlled companies from mining diamonds. But it will apply to state-owned diamond manufacturers and traders.
