A Small Business Social Bookmarking Site Whose Time Has Come

Okay, so I'm not thrilled with the name of this site -- it may be too fluffy for some small business owners -- but the concept is sound. BizSugar is a social bookmarking site that is niche focused on the small business market.

Here's how it works. Subscribers to the free site post entries to their favorite, most useful posts, pages and articles they find around the internet. As the entry is viewed, each person has an opportunity to vote by "giving 'em a little sugar." Entries with the most votes make it to the "Hot Topics" or "Top This Week" area of the site. In addition to the voting option, you can add a link to the entry at other social bookmarking sites, you can add a comment of your own, or you can email to a friend. Plus if you're not thrilled with the entry, you have the option to give it a "sour vote."

The guidelines for making an entry are simple. They accept "anything that would be of interest to owners and managers of small to mid-sized businesses" -- specifically business news, strategies, tips and trends. And they've made it easy for small business bloggers to have their posts featured on the site by providing a button that can be added to your blog that allows a visitor to "give you some sugar."

BizSugar's intent is to save small business owners time by having a great resource of small business tips, tools, trends and tactics all in one place. I'm all for that. There is so much "info overwhelm" going on these days, you could spend entire days doing nothing but reading about stuff to do -- and getting nothing done! Take some time and pay them a visit. You might even want to join the site and submit your favorite entries.

Whatever you do, keep an eye on this site. It may be slow starting, but as other small business owners discover its value it will continue to gain steam and be a good resource for now and in the future.

Have you visited the BizSugar site? Tell me what you think by leaving a comment.

I just checked out Bizsugar and have to say it's just what I've been looking for. I tried Digg for a while, but it was kind of an overwhelming nightmare unless you're a Ron Paul fan. I really hope this site takes off. Thanks for the heads up!
