Silver Guided Company Through Successful 1997 IPO and 1999 Merger With
Longtime European Partner
Kofax Image Products co-founder David S. Silver will step down as president and
He will be succeeded by Arnold von Buren, former Deputy CEO of DICOM Group, the UK-based holding company which merged with Kofax last year. Silver will retain his seat on DICOM's board of directors. von Buren recently transferred from Switzerland to Kofax's Irvine headquarters to lead the company's Ascent Software Business Unit.
Kofax develops software and hardware for electronic document capture and image processing. The DICOM-Kofax merger was completed Oct. 15, 1999, two years after Kofax went public on the Nasdaq national market.
Silver launched the company 15 years ago after being an early member of the engineering team at FileNET Corp. He guided Kofax to a dominant position in the market for hardware devices that enable personal computers to electronically capture large volumes of documents for electronic workflow and archiving applications. In 1995, he launched Kofax's software business line to handle electronic indexing and data extraction for scanned documents and integration of the resulting document images and data with powerful document management repositories.
"I've had a great run here and worked with a terrific group of people but after 18 years in the document imaging industry, I'm looking for a fresh challenge. In addition to the natural synergies between our two companies, the DICOM merger gave me that opportunity for change, while leaving the company in the hands of trusted partners who share my vision for Kofax and the market," said Silver.
DICOM was Kofax's largest European distributor prior to the merger, which combined Kofax's expertise in product development and image processing technologies with DICOM's strong international sales channels and their expertise in sales and services in international markets.
"We have always been impressed with Kofax technology and expertise in document capture and image processing, as reflected by their impressive customer roster and strong brand name," said DICOM Chairman and CEO Otto Schmid. "David Silver contributed more to that reputation than anyone. Arnold and I look forward to furthering his vision for electronic document capture and extending it throughout the world."
"The current business plan has rapidly and profitably grown Kofax and we intend to continue executing that plan while taking advantage of the additional capital, global distribution channels and expertise that DICOM brings to the combined entity," said von Buren. "Kofax end users and business partners can expect the same level of support they have always enjoyed from Kofax."
