IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 5, 2001

Kevin Drum, general manager of the Ascent Software Business Unit at Kofax has accepted a newly created position with Dicom New Ventures, the business development arm of the Dicom Group, Kofax's parent company. Roy Couchman, Ph.D., director of Ascent Software engineering, will succeed Drum as general manager.

Drum has directed all operations of the company's software application business since his promotion from vice president of marketing. He will join Dicom New Ventures in August 2001 where he and Dicom Managing Director Christoph Loeslein will research and develop new businesses for Dicom. He will continue to work in Kofax's Irvine, headquarters.

Couchman has directed development of all Kofax document and data capture software since 1998. He joined Kofax from Autodesk, where he managed software development of the AutoCAD LT high-volume CAD application.

"Kevin Drum has been with Ascent from its very beginning. He has seen Ascent grow from humble beginnings six years ago to a world-leading capture product. And he has had the satisfaction to see Ascent contribute to Kofax's remarkably consistent growth and profitability. The success of Ascent is closely linked to Kevin," said Kofax CEO Arnold von Buren.

Drum directed product development, marketing, sales and manufacturing as general manager. He was vice president of marketing from 1995 to 2000. He joined Kofax in 1992 and after two years successfully growing the company's Image Processing product family as a senior product manager, was appointed director of marketing. Prior to Kofax he worked for eight years at Emulex Corp. where he was senior product manager for a $10 million line of communications controllers. He has a bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach.

Prior to Kofax and Autodesk, Couchman managed development of network and CAD applications at DEC, CalComp, ISICAD and ISOCOR. He has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in computer science from Brunel University in England.
