As concern about global warming broadens, more and more business owners are looking at ways to "green" their operation. As I see it, there are multiple benefits in doing that:

  1. Customers are gravitating toward businesses that are have adopted eco-friendly practices in their business operations.
  2. Customers are showing a preference for environmentally safer products and services.
  3. Business owners are discovering they can save money by using less energy and wasting less.

Ilana DeBare, who has been writing a small business column in the San Francisco Chronicle, offered tips this week on resources for "Greening your small business". She offers tips that any small business owner could follow in order to operate more sustainably. Starting in January, she'll be writing a new column on business and the environment. I believe 2008 will be the year when small business owners will take major steps to run greener businesses.
