Fuel Prices, Online Shopping and Your Home-Based Business

Wednesday, July 2 2008

The price of fuel is forcing a paradigm shift for many people. It's starting to affect their choices in places to live, places to work, the vehicles they drive, and where they plan to go. It also is affecting their shopping habits.

It's probably safe to say that there will be fewer of those 'all day shopping excursions'. Running around town shopping for this and that will make less sense given that fuel is now heading for the $5 per gallon mark. People will begin to ask "Do I really need to drive to Store A to get product X"? This may mean they'll start shopping closer to home, they may consolidate their shopping trips or..... they may do more online shopping.

Even though fuel costs affect online shipping costs, the online store offers better value where a trip across town may not. When the online merchant can deliver something right to the door of the customer, it saves them from having to burn fuel to go after the item. That means online shopping is still a good deal and will continue to be a good deal for many items.

So people haven't stopped buying things. If you are afraid to start an home based business due to the economic conditions, consider that overall ecommerce is still growing and shows growth for at least the next few years. There are still plenty of niche markets that can best be served by a home based drop ship business. You can find them via research databases such as WorldWide Brands OneSource! So let others play the recession game and realize that people prosper even in turbulent time.
