Plumbing, Heating, And Cooling Contractor Scholarships And Awards

The Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association of Wisconsin (PHCC-WI) recently presented scholarships and awards during the association's annual meeting.

Robert W. Hammersmith Scholarships awards of $1,000 each were presented to J. Ben Blazek, Ashland, Wis., and Caroline Wiersgalla, Eau Claire, Wis. The scholarships are given each year to students in a four-year college program studying a field related to the construction industry.

Blazek will study construction management at the University of Wisconsin — Stout. Wiersgalla will study business at Texas Christian University.

A Tom Nelson Apprentice Scholarship of $500 was presented to Lucas Elsing, Stoughton, Wis. The scholarship is given each year to a student enrolled in a plumbing- or heating-related apprenticeship program. Elsing is enrolled in a plumbing apprenticeship program through the Madison Area Technical College.

An Auxiliary Scholarship award of $500 was presented to Sarah Munson, New Richmond, Wis. The scholarship is given each year to an outstanding student studying a field related to the construction industry. Munson will study business and accounting in college.

PHCC-WI also presented several industry awards at the meeting.

Scott Madsen of Burton-Anderson & Associates, New Berlin, Wis., was named Industry Partner (Associate Member) of the Year. He has been involved with the association for many years and currently serves as an industry partner representative on the PHCC-WI board of directors.

Mike Schmitz of Cox Plumbing, Waukesha, Wis., was named Contractor of the Year. Schmitz is a long-time member of the association and has served on its board of directors and as president. Schmitz currently serves as the zone director to the plumbing heating cooling contractors national association, representing Wisconsin and other upper-Midwest states.

PHCC-Wisconsin Association is dedicated to professionalism in the plumbing and HVAC industries. The association provides programs,services, education, and advocacy in support of plumbing and HVAC contractors throughout Wisconsin. The association is an advocate for codes, licensing, regulation and enforcement that protect public health and safety.
