Jonathan Reuvid has attempted a difficult task. He has produced a book which seeks to determine
Either of these subjects would have been worthwhile in their own right and I wasn't sure if they could be covered in sufficient detail to avoid being little more than a skim across the surface. So I was pleasantly surprised to find the book works very well indeed.
The opening analysis of China's macroeconomics is clear and concise and the challenges it faces on its journey to becoming a world economic superpower are laid out comprehensively.
The second section provides detailed case studies of organisations that have been involved with China either through joint ventures (JV) or by setting up wholly owned foreign investments, and plots their successes and failures in equal measure.
Its focus is predominantly on organisations seeking to establish a presence in China and is most useful to individuals engaged in JV activity or those wishing to manufacture there. Nonetheless, it is also a useful reference for those involved in sourcing goods and services.
In summary, this book is very successful in achieving its aims. It provides enough detail to give sufficient understanding of the issues and offers comprehensive advice on all aspects of the Chinese experience.
