The editors were impressed with the niche The Project has carved in the recruiting marketplace. The daVinci Project began in 1997 in response to the critical shortage of engineers and technical professionals nationwide. Today, more than 40 Upstate New York companies have joined forces to attract employees. The collaborative website emphasizes the under-publicized but significant lifestyle benefits and career opportunities of this region.

The technology renaissance here is creating a wealth of technical jobs--an estimated 2,000-3,000 openings over the next three years in daVinci companies alone. The consortium allows these companies to pool resources, offering a diversity of positions in technical specialties including electrical, mechanical, computer, civil, chemical, environmental, RF/microwave and consulting engineering, as well as software and IT.
