Comic-Con International: San Diego 2003
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 2003
The nation's only museum dedicated to the art of the comic book, the New York City Comic Book Museum (NYCCBM) has partnered with a number of creators from publisher Oni
Press on a special program for this week's Comic-Con International: San Diego 2003."In an effort to overcome the confusion that sometimes results on the floor of the most crowded comic book convention in North America, the New York City Comic Book Museum has partnered with seven artists from Oni Press and designer Mike Zagari to produce a sketch menu modeled after a New York City takeout menu," said Andrew Lis, Trustee for the NYCCBM. "While in San Diego, these artists have each agreed to donate a New York-themed sketch to our collection, which we will then utilize in a charity auction this fall."
Oni Press artists Chynna Clugston-Major, Jose Garibaldi, Daniel Krall, Christine Norrie, Mike Norton, Steve Rolston and Brett Weldele are the participants in this special creative program. The menu will be available at the Oni Press booth from July 16-20 at Comic Con International: San Diego 2003.
"This promotion came about when the artists identified one of their problems from past shows, which was the volume of fans demanding sketches left them only time to discuss sketches, and no time to actually speak with their biggest supporters," Lis said. "In the interest of working with both fans and creators to make the comic book industry and its biggest annual event more fun and enjoyable we came up with a takeout menu. It's designed to advertise the creators' presence at Comic-Con, list their individual web sites and contact information, and also some important show facts, such as price lists for artist sketches."
