Small Business Owners are the Hereos of our Economy

Thursday, May 1 2008

Small Business owners are the heroes of our economy! According to the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy, small businesses account for 99.7% of US employers. They pay more than 45% of total US private payroll, and they have generated 60-80% of new net jobs over the last ten years. Small business owners wear many hats in order to be successful. Often they must be the chief sales officer, financial officer, stocking clerk, and janitor. In order to be successful, they must manage people, money and sales effectively. Thanks to web-based resources like www.alllbusiness.com the small business owner now has access to thousands of excellent free and low priced resources that can help make their daunting job easier.

I have a passion for helping small business owners succeed. I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of small and start-up businesses obtain various forms of financing during the last 18 years. I still have a few clients that I began working for in 1994. As a “hands-on” commercial bank lender and now independent consultant, I have seen nearly every conceivable type of small business challenge imaginable.

My vision for this blog is to discuss practical information and advice that will allow a reader to spend 5 minutes reading it and take away something of value to help them manage some aspect of managing money. If I can get you to think about new ideas and creative ways to manage your company’s most valuable asset – cash, I feel I will have succeeded.

I want to see small business owners not only survive, but to thrive in our difficult economy. It can be done! I welcome your ideas for topics. If I don’t know an answer to a question you may have, I will seek out the best source I can to assist me in providing small business owners the information they need on financing related topics.

I personally believe that “Wall Street” bears the primary blame for the tough times small business owners are facing in obtaining capital to operate their business, but I see small business owners working on a daily basis to adapt and thrive in a tough environment. I also believe it will be “Main Street” businesses that bring us out of this period of turmoil and uncertain financial times.

My goal is to post a minimum of three blogs a week, so check back often to find information I hope you will find useful in managing your businesses' money.
