PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1994-- Hewlett-Packard Company and GE Industrial and Power Systems (GE Power Systems) today announced that HP has been selected for a multiyear outsourcing project worth more than $3 million.
According to GE Power Systems, it sought an outsourcing agreement to reduce the cost of systems management and administration. Besides meeting the basic technical and budgetary criteria, HP was selected because of its responsiveness, track record and good reputation in working with GE Power Systems. A vote by GE Power Systems end-user management favoring HP played a deciding role in the selection process.
"We have a very good ongoing business relationship with HP," said James Mancini of GE Power Systems. "We believe HP's broad base of resources and expertise will help us maintain a high level of user support, allowing us to stay focused on developing products and services to meet our customer needs."
Under the agreement, HP will provide services for GE Power Systems' multivendor client/server environment, which comprises nearly 1,000 UNIX(R) system-based workstations and servers distributed throughout multiple company sites. HP will provide a UNIX system-based help desk, system management and administration services, and asset-change management, tracking and reporting services.
"More and more companies are realizing that end-user support and systems management are not their areas of expertise," said Lane Nonnenberg, general manager of HP's Operations Services Division. "We have the experience and support infrastructure to cost effectively manage multivendor client/server environments for these companies, enabling them to focus on the growth of their core business."
GE Power Systems is one of GE's major businesses, and is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of power generation systems and services.
Hewlett-Packard Company is a leading global manufacturer of computing, communications and measurement products and services recognized for excellence in quality and support. HP has 98,400 employees and had revenue of $25 billion in its 1994 fiscal year. -0-
