By John W. Gonzalez, Houston Chronicle Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Oct. 18--SAN ANTONIO--Five live oak trees were planted on a suburban pasture Friday to symbolize Toyota taking root in Texas with the construction of an $800 million truck manufacturing plant.

The event drew guests from Japan and rekindled the city's hopes that the facility will offset a succession of local plant closures by providing 2,000 high-paying assembly jobs and thousands more in related industries.
