National program designed to encourage the use of technology
in arts education; $25,000 to be awarded to students

Award winning and nationally renowned children's book author and illustrator, Tomie dePaola, will deliver this year's Imation Computer Arts Scholarship Program keynote address, to be held in April at Imation's headquarters in Oakdale, Minnesota. An accomplished professional artist and designer, teacher of art, painter and muralist, and artist and author of books for children, dePaola has been published for over 30 years.
Imation also announced the 2000 Imation Computer Arts Scholarship judges, to include:

Students at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) provided the initial review and judging of more than 650 scholarship entries and narrowed the selection to 100 finalists. The selections were based on originality, creativity, composition, and the use of color, craft, and technical skills.
&uot;This program is an incredible resource that helps solidify a wonderful and deepening marriage between art and technology,&uot; said Tom Hatfield, Executive Director of NAEA. &uot;The program also has a very practical application in providing students with a financial scholarship that will assist them as they move on to the next academic level.&uot;

Each of the students named in the top 100 will receive a National Certificate of Excellence. The panel of seven judges will then select 25 of those finalists as the 2000 scholarship recipients. Each of these students will receive a $1,000 scholarship award, a medallion and a trip with a parent or guardian to the Twin Cities on April 28-30 for the national recognition events.
