HOLLAND, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 2002

If Romulus, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, is having a coat or a food drive, providing help for senior citizens, or giving donations to needy individuals and charitable organizations,

USF Holland, Inc. employee Robert Udovich is probably involved.

Mr. Udovich, a linehaul driver for USF Holland, Inc., and a member of Teamster's Local Union No. 299, was recently awarded the Bernie Firestone Labor Volunteer Award. Presented by United Way Community Services, the award is given to a rank and file member of a metro Detroit union for outstanding dedication to volunteering.

"We couldn't do it without the backing of USF Holland," explained Mr. Udovich. The company has donated trucks and equipment for many service projects. Many employees who are teamsters as well as the management team have participated in the volunteer activities.

"This is a business, but we're also part of the community," commented Bob Clifton, USF Holland Inc. Detroit Terminal Manager and Mr. Udovich's supervisor. "USF Holland is proud to help, especially when employees such as Bob Udovich are so committed and enthusiastic," Mr. Clifton added.

With Mr. Udovich spearheading the community services program, Local 299 mobilizes its members to donate money, time and equipment on a variety of projects: everything from raising money to help defray the costs of expensive medical care to organizing trucks and volunteer drivers to collecting and delivering donated items. The group has raised nearly $50,000 in each of the last few years and contributes to charities both large and small, as well as to union members and individuals in the community who are in need of assistance.

As a child, as a Jaycee, as a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, as a teamster, and as a concerned citizen in his community, Bob Udovich has always looked out for others who are less fortunate. "I grew up in a small town, Belleville, Michigan, where no one stood alone. Everyone looked out for everyone else, and that's how it started for me," said Mr. Udovich. "Now our local raises funds and tries to make a difference in our community," he added.
