Bring First Hand Experiences to the Board

The Northwest Forum for Women Entrepreneurs (FWE), the premier non-profit

organization for women entrepreneurs in high technology and life sciences, today announced the appointment of Lisa Hjorten, co-founder and chairman of Pacific Edge Software, and Sarah Daniels, vice president of marketing at Aventail, to its board of directors.

Hjorten and Daniels will help to guide the development of educational and networking opportunities for this area's women entrepreneurs and executives in high tech and biotech.

"Having both started, built and managed highly successful companies in the rapidly changing high technology industry, Lisa and Sarah will be instrumental in developing the kind of FWE programs that will help other Pacific Northwest women entrepreneurs reach the level of success they have," said Sharelle Klaus, president of Northwest FWE.

"The Northwest region of FWE is well known for having some of the most dynamic and successful women in high tech and biotech among its members," said new board member Ms. Daniels. "I truly appreciate the opportunity to fulfill this organization's mission to accelerate the growth and success of our area's women entrepreneurs."

Lisa Hjorten

As co-founder and former president and CEO of Bellevue-based Pacific Edge Software, Lisa successfully launched the company in January 1998 and secured more than $32 million in venture-based financing. Hjorten brings to FWE more than 17 years of experience in high-technology, specifically, the enterprise software market. Prior to co-founding Pacific Edge, she was a sales executive at Artemis Management Systems where she more than tripled her division's growth in less than a year. In the early `80s, she worked for Boeing Computer Professional Services Organization, helping companies implement software tools to help manage their business projects. Hjorten holds a bachelor's of arts degree in business administration and computer science from the University of Washington. This month she received the Ernst & Young Pacific Northwest Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She was also a finalist for FWE's 2001 Entrepreneurial Achievement Award and honored as one of the "Top 20 Women of the Web" by Family Money Magazine.

Sarah Daniels

Daniels brings to FWE a proven record of successful high-technology entrepreneurship. Most recently, Daniels was co-founder and vice president of marketing and sales for Scriptics Corporation (renamed Ajuba Solutions), a developer of Tcl and XML based integration solutions acquired by Interwoven in October of 2000. Daniels played a key role in developing the company and securing funding, and was responsible for its marketing and sales strategy and activity. Before Ajuba, Daniels co-founded and headed the marketing, sales, and business development divisions of Presidio Systems, a provider of data collection and management software that was later acquired by Domain Solutions. Ms. Daniels is currently the vice president of marketing for Seattle-based Aventail, a managed service provider of secure Internet infrastructure. Daniels holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Yale University.

Other members of the Northwest FWE board of directors include Katarina Bonde of Glides.com, Alexa Chang of Foster Pepper Shefelmann, Misha Halvarsson of DDM2, Kristi Marchbanks of SeaTab Software, Sue Preston, Entrepreneur in Residence of the Kaufman Foundation, Susan Sigl of SeaPoint Ventures, and Trish Zuccotti of Deloitte & Touche.
